If you’ve been following my blog you would remember that I decided to move ahead with Google Adsense as part of  my strategy to make money online i.e, build up Niche adsense sites to make a passive income online. In this process I’ve learnt the importance of taking a decision and sticking to it.

Just to give you a background, I started blogging in 2009 with this blog and after that have had 4 domain names that did end up as a failure..i tried clickbank products, being a webhosting affiliate and a random site that had topics on health, entertainment etc etc. Very recently , I did decide to go ahead with one route to make money online. Based on my personal experience, I would like to say that if you’re a newbie just getting into the Internet Marketing world, don’t fall for the fake products and tall claims that you can make money online with no effort at all. Just like any business in the real world, it takes time, effort and the right kind of strategy to make money online. Also, stick to one way of making money from the Internet..just my 2 cents.

Coming back, As a part of my efforts to rank high in SERP’s for my targeted keyword for my niche site, I’ve been trying numerous ways to build backlinks to my site. I would like to write on what I did last month and what i think worked for my niche site.

So, Here’s what I currently have

I have around 15 articles on my niche site and as a learning I decided to focus on building backlinks to my domain and a single post that is targeted on a keyword that has 5900 searches in a month (as per google adwords) and a CPC of $9.

I would also like to show you a screenshot from traffic travis of what my competition looks like, so that you can get an idea of what I’ve got into.

My niche post is currently ranking on 15th position (marked in red) for the targeted keyword in  Google SERP’s. Although it’s not too bad for a site I registered around September mid.

And here’s what I did

As part of my backlinking efforts, I signed up for services link Article Ranks and SpinDistribute and did dwelve into forums and blog comments and article marketing. The results are here:

1) Article Ranks is a service that is a fully automated article marketing & article distribution service. For a submission of 1 article, i got around 12 backlinks .. which is not bad. I took an article from ezine articles and spun the content to almost 200% unique with Spinner Chief – a free spinner.

2) Spin Distribute says that they’ve distributed my article to around 50% of the 800 sites. As per their analysis, I should get about 800 backlinks to my one article. As per my analysis, I don’t even see one backlink to my site until now that is.

3) Submitted a unique article to Ezine Articles directory. This has been indexed and shows up in yahoo site explorer

4) Submitted articles to squidoo, hubpages, scribd and created web 2.0 blogs at blogster, blogspot and blog.com with a post relating to my niche and linking back to my site.

5) Submitted my post to Social Monkee. Yes, the free backlinking solution that earns me 100 free social bookmarks from each submission (I am a premium member, because I’ve referred 12+ members). I saw quite a few bookmarks indexed in Google, so that is going well.

6) Created around 5 forum profiles, now this generally does not work because a profile page is generally deep into the domain and I doubt it’ll ever get recognized. But yes, i did create my signature and tried to to reply to a few topics. The moderator removed the post and banned me the very next moment. I also experienced forums where you can use you’re signature only after you’ve reached a certain no. of posts. I am really not aware of that number and do not have the time to work on building it. My take home from this, if you find a high PR page ranking for a forum, sign up and then leave your comment. After around 15 days, go back create your signature and you should see it in your post. This will help you stay away from the moderators  scanner. Yes, involves a lot of follow up and hard work.  But then, who said things were easy

7) Now, comes the most interesting part.. i found a lot of blogs that had an extremely high PR (PR 7 in cases) to comment on. The interesting thing was that these PR blogs not only had high PR in their domain but also the same followed on their interior pages.. which was good news.

Now the trick here is to leave interesting comments  which takes a lot of time as you have to read each and every post… but it’s worth the effort. I got around 90 backlinks indexed in yahoo site explorer right after commenting on these high PR blogs.. which is something im looking forward to. Now, I will have to follow up and see if these comments stick and I get the benefits.

3) Page Rank – If you’re lucky enough, you could find a domain name with PageRank. You will need to do a little bit of searching, but you can find one if you really put in the effort. If the webmaster had promoted the website well, it might have attained a page rank which of course you can take advantage of instantly.

How to Find Expired Domain Names

Now, I presume since you know the advantages of Expired domain names, you would like to know how you can locate them and purchase them as well, right? The following websites will help you:

Check Page Rank

Let’s say that you’ve found a list of expiring domain names that you would like to purchase, a good idea would be to check they’re page rank to help us decide. You could use  the website http://www.masspagerank.com/ to help you check the page rank of all your preferred domains at once.

Purchase Expired Domain Names

A good idea then would be to head over to Netfirms and register your domain name. You can refer an earlier article I wrote on registering a domain name with Netfirms for $4.95 only.

If you wish to rank higher in SERP’s for your targeted keywords, the only way to do so is backlinks. We’ve already discussed that Onpage SEO is one of the factors that will contribute to about 15-20% of the reason your post will rank highly in Google SERP’s and the rest 80-85% will be dependent on your backlinks you build  – quality & quantity

The best way to start your link building efforts for your targeted keywords is by finding out your competitors backlink profile.  There are two major reasons why this is a great approach:

• You can find out the backlink profile and diverse links of your competitors
• You can probably build similar kinds of backlinks and even more to beat your competition

Find Backlink Data

You could use the tool Backlink Watch to do this easily for you. Backlink watch is an excellent tool that gives the following details:

As soon as you plug in your competitors URL, you will start obtaining details like Anchor Text used for the backlink, PR of the backlink, outbound links from the backlink giving page and if any nofollow tag is used. This makes this tool very simple and easy to use.

Now, for an example we’ve taken a very competitive keyword “hostgator review” and these were the results in Google. The site joshkotsay.com is ranking very well at 2nd position for this competitive keyword. This would imply that the webmaster is doing a great job with backlinking efforts and we use the tool http://backlinkwatch.com to figure out the site’s link profile and the total no. of backlinks.

If you dig into the results, you will find results as shown in the screenshot below:

Here you can see the backlink URL, Anchor Text, Outgoing Backlinks (OBL) and nofollow flag. If you go through the results, you will find that the webmaster has built a lot of backlinks using web 2.0 websites with the help of article marketing.

Now the idea is that you’ve found that the webmaster has a total of 513 backlinks and a very diverse link profile. If you’re interested in beating the competition you know that you have a lot of work ahead in front of you by building backlinks from various sources. Hope you remember an earlier post of mine relating to Google search operators. Here, also we will use a google search operators to find sites which are using the StatusNet platform:

“public timeline” + “export data” +”StatusNet”

As you punch this operator in Google, you will be shown a whole lot of sites that run on the StatusNet Platform. Now, if you have the time and energy you can register with each one of them and post on your newly created blog post url’s manually. This of course will take a lot of your time and energy and we’re pretty sure being a webmaster you would want to work smart.

Automate It!

Here comes the most interesting part, register at SocialOomph in the free mode and add the StatusNet sites you’ve registered at. Why Are Backlinks Not Showing Up For My Site?

Until your site is indexed, it will not show up in any search engine searches and no backlinks will be registered. You can even do a search for your exact site name or URL and nothing will show up–that is how you know that your site has not been indexed yet.

Factors that influence your credit for Backlinks

Links Are Not Equal

Firstly, you need to understand that not all links are created equal. Links from higher authority sites will generally be counted faster. Low quality free for all links usually take a while to be considered. Some page’s authority is discounted so much they don’t ever get counted.

Links Over Time

Next, the weight a link carries increases with time. And this weight over time factor varies with different situations. If Google notices a page going viral, and it has hundreds of back links from authoritative sites, then there is a strong chance these links will carry heavy weight up front. Others usually increase over time and may mature in 2 weeks to 2 months. If the link isn’t counted after a month or so, it may never be.

Google may also give increased authority to links that have been around 6 months, a year or more. Some of this extra weight though may be associated with an increase in the authority of the linking page over the time of the link.

Generally the “better quality” the link is, the sooner the link will count.

One of the most used methods of checking backlinks is Yahoo Site Explorer, they are not an accurate measure of what Google counts. Yahoo counts links more openly than Google. To see a better representation of your back links, use Google Webmaster Tools.

The best thing to do is to just focus on links and ignore statistics. At the end of the week, check your progress, and move on. Google will either count it your links or they will not. No amount of worry will speed up credit for your backlinks.

This is a follow-up to our previous post on SocialMonkee: Free Link Building Solution. We’ve been submitting our links to SocialMonkee & decided to check out the results of those submissions. The objective was to figure out if SocialMonkee deliver results, as they claim to build 25 BACKLINKS everyday, totaling up to 750 backlinks every month with their free account.

You need to be choosy while selecting your article directories out there as there a lot of them that are more like link farms and google’s recent panda update devalued these sites. Few of the well-known article directories are Ezine & GoArticles.

4. Web 2.0 & Free Blogging Sites – Another great source of obtaining backlinks to your sites are web 2.0 sites like squidoo & hubpages. These web 2.0 sites allow you to create your own pages and can write any topic of your choice and get a one way link with anchor text of your choice.  Free blogging sites like wordpress.com, blogger.com & typepad allows you to create your own free blogs on any niche and write content of your choice with relevant links.

5. Directory Submissions – There are a lot of directories that you can submit your site to.  Submitting your links to directories like Yahoo & Dmoz will help you build up backlinks to your site.
