PubSubHubBub3PubSubHubBub (PuSH) is an open protocol created by Google which pings any new content you create to various hubs around the internet, and as a result it increases the speed at which your content gets indexed and ranked by the search engines.

On March 3rd, 2010 wordpress.com turned on PuSH support for the more than 10.5 million blogs hosted on WordPress.com. There’s nothing to configure for wordpress.com hosted blogs, as it works behind the scenes. However, for self hosted blogs which are running on the wordpress platform it needs to be done with the help of PubSubHubbub WordPress plugin

How Does the PubSubHubbub WordPress Plugin Help

This PubSubHubbub plugin is a simple way to let people know in real-time when your blog is updated. PubSubHubbub is quickly gaining adoption and is already being used by Google Reader, Google Alerts, FriendFeed and more

By default the PubSubHubbub WordPress Plugin pings the following hubs:

  • Demo hub on Google App Engine
  • SuperFeedr

The great thing about this free plugin and protocol is that you will no longer need to ping services manually to get content recognized by the search engines as this plugin will help you do that.

@ Salman – It has a real funny name.. :)

Since it’s google’s open protocol…i dont think it should be too much of an issue.. because not many are comfortable with pinging as theyve experienced negative effects.

Actually sandeep wordpress doesnt need any additional ping plugins. the defauly ping alone is sufficient to notify the search engines. if search engine get pinged with the same post several times then may tag the site as spam.

I’ve noticed our content being indexed way faster since we’ve deployed the PuSH plugin on our WP blogs.

Anyone know where this is headed? are we going to see ever increasing lists of Hubs to add to our
notification list like the ping lists?

Laurent
