in Software & Technology

A website may be down or not performing well in different locations of the world due to various reasons with a few of them being – problem with your web hosting, issues with IP address etc.

Just Ping is an online web-based ping tool that pings from 50 locations worldwide. This tool helps you know whether your website is accessible from each of the 50 locations throughout the world or not. It pings your website from these different locations and finally displays the results as shown below.

As you can see from the below image, our website http://curiouslittleperson.com is accessible from most of the locations of the world except Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where we have a 20% packet loss error. A packet loss error or  a time-out in one or two cities, might mean a temporary issue.

As per Wikipedia, “Packet loss occurs when one or more packets of data travelling across a computer network fail to reach their destination. Packet loss can be caused by a number of factors, including signal degradation over the network medium due to multi-path fading, packet drop because of channel congestion, corrupted packets rejected in-transit, faulty networking hardware, faulty network drivers or normal routing routines.”

Incase you notice issues cropping up from majority of the cities; you should contact your web hosting provider for more details on the same.

Do check out your website and let us know the results.

Sandeep my personal advice is dont use ping tools. A year before in one of my blogs I used many sites for pinging and finally my posts started to get index very slowly. When I researched about it many said that Google may penalize the site if we ping too much. The bais ping service from wordpress is enough.

Hey Mukundan – This is not the ping to RSS Feeds etc… this is to ping your server to check if your website is responding from different location of this world

just-ping is preety cool, but a bit slow. Try also check-host.net, it’s very quick.
