If you run a blog /website which gets a lot of search engine traffic, one of the good ways to monetize and make money online is through Pay Per Click (PPC) Advertising Networks.
Google Adsense is the most popular PPC Advertising network that offers a contextual advertising solution to web publishers delivering text-based Google ads that are relevant to site content pages.
You need to sign up with Google Adsense and paste a code on your site that will then show up contextual advertisements on your site and you will earn a certain amount of money for every click. Contextual advertisements are ads which are relevant to your content.
The following are the products offered by Google Adsense
AdSense for content – This is the most popular product by Google Adsense. AdSense for content is a way for website / blog publishers of all sizes to earn money by displaying Google ads on their website’s content pages. The ads are related to what your users are looking for on your site, so they’ll help you enhance your content pages while earning from them
AdSense for search - AdSense for search is a free product that lets you to place a Custom Search Engine on your site to provide users with web search. You’ll also earn revenue from relevant ads on the search results page.
AdSense for search offers you the following:
- Choosing the content your users search: your site, a collection of sites you choose, or the entire web. You can also prioritize and restrict search to specific sections of sites.
- Customization of look and feel – you choose the colors, location of the ads, and the option to host the results on your site or have Google host them for you.
- Monetization of search results pages with targeted ads.
AdSense for mobile content – AdSense for mobile content allows publishers to generate earnings from their mobile webpages using targeted Google ads. Just like AdSense for content, with AdSense for mobile content Google matches ads to the content of your site — in this case, your mobile website. You’ll earn money whenever your mobile website’s visitors click on your ads
AdSense for feeds – AdSense for feeds allows web publishers to earn by placing targeted Google ads in their feeds. AdSense for feeds works the way the rest of the AdSense program works: by delivering ads that are relevant to your content and your readers
AdSense for video - AdSense for video allows publishers with video content to earn revenue using relevant, non-intrusive ad placements from Google’s extensive advertiser network. Video content will display both InVideo overlay and text overlay ads
AdSense for domains – This is only for sites which have no content or are unused. AdSense for domains allows publishers with unused domains to help users reach relevant information by presenting content on the domains.
Users often type domains into their address bar or follow expired links leading to sites with no content. Instead of an “under construction” page or 404 error, AdSense for domains provides links, search results, advertisements and other content. To do this, we use semantic technology targeted to the domain name. You earn revenue when users interact with the ads on your site.
AdSense for mobile applications – AdSense for mobile applications allows publishers to monetize their mobile applications with Google ads. Ads are specifically formatted for high-end phones and can be integrated directly into iPhone and Android applications
Final Thoughts
The amount of revenue a PPC advertising network like Google Adsense can generate for you depends on the traffic levels of your site & the niche you are in. Then there are factors like Cost Per Click (CPC) & Click Through Rate (CTR) which also play their role.
Cost per click (CPC) is the sum paid by an advertiser to search engines and other Internet publishers for a single click on their advertisement, which directs one visitor to the advertiser’s website. The CPC varies depending on the search engine and the level of competition for a particular keyword
Click Through Rate (CTR) is obtained by dividing the “number of users who clicked on an ad” on a web page by the “number of times the ad was delivered” (impressions). For example, if a banner ad was delivered 100 times (impressions delivered) and 1 person clicked on it (clicks recorded), then the resulting CTR would be 1 percent.
The CTR largely depends on the design of the website and a good way to analyze where to place your advertisements is by using heat maps.
The Click Through Rate is also affected by the kind of traffic you receive on your site. If you receive search engine traffic, there will generally be a higher click-through rate as the traffic is targeted and looking for specifics.

Indeed its a very good way to earn money through adsense. Adsense for mobile is also very useful. I think earning more money will be based on the content that you add in your website. The more useful information, the more is the click. At the same time the look also matters since it attracts users to click on. That means traffic generation is very much important.
I also think that new updates everyday on your site will make users more eager to know more. Hence the click on the add will be also more.

Hi Atul – Thanks for your comment. Yes, adsense pays at least the basic cost of maintaining a website… totally agree with you on that.
Will give it second thoughts..
Thanks for the article. AdSense deserves some positive attention. I have been with AdSense for a long while and my experience with them is rather good. For those of you who are interested in more background information about Google Adsense; visit my blog at http://www.hansnetten.net. (Up to the moderators if link is accepted). My site contains a specific Google AdSense section with new articles written by myself on a regular base. The section contains 15 articles at this point in time. My general advice concerning AdSense is work hard, stick by the rules, be versatile and flexible and don’t give up. AdSense is rewarding in the long run and not some kind of get rich quick scheme. Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for the article Sandeep. Looking forward for more inputs on this.

Rakesh.
